Thomas Gunn Miniatures Heinz Wolfgang Schnaufer The Wolf of St. Trond Heinz Wolfgang Schnaufer was the highest scoring night fighter ace in the history or aerial warfare, with a total of 121 victories in just 164 combat missions. Amazingly Schnaufer scored most of his victories in a Me 110, an aircraft which had easily succumbed to the RAF when used during daylight operations in the battle of Britain. Born in 1922Schnaufer was only 21 years old when he was awarded the Knights Cross in 1943, the Oak leaves, Swords and Diamonds were all added in 1944. Schnauferwas nicknamed the Wolf of St Trond, where his unit was based for some time. Schnaufer was captured by British forces at the end of WW2 but was releasedwithin a year. He took over the family wine business but was unfortunately killed in 1950, during an automobile accident at the young age of just 28years old. This figure is limited to 100 worldwide.
