Erich Alfred "Bubi" Hartmann was the most successful fighter ace in the history of aerial combat. He shot down 352 enemy aircraft while serving the Luftwaffe. After reaching 250 victories, he was temporarily grounded by Hermann Göering who feared the Nazi hero might die in combat.
